Elastomeric Rubber Foam insulation is a synthetic rubber composed of a closed-cell structure available in factory-made tubes, sheets, or rolls. The outside edge consists of a smooth surface or “skin” which serves as a built-in vapor retarder.
Because of its outstanding capacity to manage condensation on cold (below-ambient) mechanical systems, closed-cell elastomeric foam insulation is best recognized as an HVAC, refrigerant, and plumbing pipe or piping insulation. Elastomeric foam insulation, with its low water vapor permeability, closed-cell structure, and built-in vapor retarder, is an excellent choice for protecting piping and equipment from corrosion under insulation, or ``CUI,`` one of the most common problems and owner concerns in the building and construction industry.
